Special Thanks to Technology Marketing Network www.tmcnet.com for interviewing our president Carl Teo of EcoCarrier Inc.
We will be attending the ITEXPO in Miami between Jan 30 – Feb 2, 2013 http://itexpo.tmcnet.com/east13/
1. What is the most significant technology trend impacting the way businesses conduct operations today?
[CT] It is Mobile Connectedness and its increasingly ubiquitous availability. Technology and network facility becoming available for use in an ever more extensive reach and coverage ; reach into all manners of business activities and all kinds of business operations and country and geographical coverage.
2. How is cloud computing changing the way you operate your business?
[CT] Cloud computing makes things affordable for all business. You can now avail yourself of the most power suite of software for professional graphic and video creation for use in your MAC for as little cost as $30 a month service fee in a cloud computing service model.
3. Have security concerns around cloud computing been effectively addressed by the market, or is security still impediment to adoption?
[CT] Reasonable level of security is available with cloud computing. Building better security is an evolving process that involves the participation of hackers to stress-test the security in place for use. I don’t think it is an impediment to the adoption of cloud computing-based services by the user public.
4. How has the unprecedented growth of social media changed the way you manage your customers?
[CT] In many ways, it has to do with “What’s the best way to reach out to your customers ?” We have to be with it in order to keep up with the competitions and the new players in our space.
5. “Customer Experience” has become buzzword and 2013 may well become characterized as the Year of Customer Experience. What is your business doing to improve your customers’ experiences?
[CT] Mainly through social media and the blogosphere.
6. Keeping in mind that BYOD is now pervasive and no longer a phenomenon, will BYOD heavily influence your business in 2013 (whether from a security, policy or device or app management perspective) or have we moved beyond BYOD?
[CT] No it would not. We would encourage BYOD as all our services are offered in a managed service model. We try not to have to handle any hardware device. Today it is reasonable to expect that most, if not all, the hardware devices in the market are reasonably well built and made in compliance to industry specifications and protocols.
7. BYOS – Bring Your Own Storage (or rather, Bring Your Own Cloud-based Storage) – and dealing with it may, in fact, now be the new major issue most enterprises and solutions providers need to deal with. Is your company prepared to deal with it, either at the carrier level or through independent vendors?
[CT] As a managed service provider offering all services on-line, all storage of data relative to the relationships and transactions that we have with our clients are available in storage on line and on demand by our clients in our web-servers.
8. Should enterprises look to pre-empt BYOS issues by moving to carefully controlled cloud storage in 2013?
[CT] This is what we do in effect as ours is very much a private cloud-based operation. (see 7.)
9. Unified Communications and VoIP have moved beyond the early adopter phase into the mainstream. What significant issues still remain that businesses must contend with as they determine when and how to migrate to IP-based communications?
[CT] In the case of the large companies, it’s cash flow. In the case of small business it is lack of knowledge, in-house expertise and cash flow.
10. Will 2013 be the year the laptop dies? Why or why not?
[CT] It does look likely that laptops will go into the history book sooner or later but may be not in 2013.
11. What impact will Widows 8 have on the mobile market? Can it be a real competitor to iOS and Android? Where does RIM fit into the landscape?
[CT] With Microsoft’s clout in distribution, Windows 8 may still be able to gain a significant share of the market. RIM’s prospects are confined to some countries where they have already a large customer base.
12. Will 2013 finally bring widespread video communications adoption? Why?
[CT] Because all the tools are readily available at affordable prices including cloud-based-offer pricing and you can now engage reasonably good people to do video creation and production for a small expense.
13. What is the most disruptive technology that will hit mainstream markets this year and why?
[CT] 3-D Printer. People are now even working on printer that will print human body parts for use in human transplants.
14. What is the one misconception you would like to see set straight in the technology markets?
[CT] The misconception: “ Money is the root of all evils”.
It should be “The love of money is the root of all evils”
One should read the book “How Much is Enough?” by Skidelsky, Robert Jacob Alexander
15. What are you most looking forward to at ITEXPO Miami 2013?
{CT} We look forward to meeting suitably-positioned individuals or corporations to discuss the opportunities and benefits our various business propositions, notably:
(A) IntelliDR Network
Ecocarrier www.ecocarrier.com will introduce at ITEXPO East 2013 their IntelliDR Network and invite suitably positioned individual entrepreneurs or corporations in various target countries to join the managed network as strategic partners.
Today IntelliDR Network has points of presence (PoP) in some 15 countries including Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Morocco, Libya, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Sudan and carries in excess of 25 million minutes of call traffic monthly for call termination on the direct routes for wholesale carrier service.
IntelliDR Networks is growing rapidly both in capacity for handling increasingly larger volume of call traffic and greater coverage countries.
Great prospects exist for building Direct Routes in Africa, Caribbean countries, Central America and Oceania.
Ecocarrier will undertake to build the Direct Routes, managed the PoP and direct wholesale call traffic to the PoPs for call termination. The strategic partner needs only to carry out a routine set of duties to maintain the PoP and profits from the operation of IntelliDR Network as a business enterprise in providing low-cost, high quality, reliable call termination service for wholes carrier service .
Investment required is minimal as IntelliDR Network is designed to operate as part of an established private cloud computing network in a managed service model. The PoP consists of an IntelliDR gateway connected to the Internet and the local mobile network in the country of operation.
IntelliDR Network is implemented with powerful features for intelligent call switching and call routing in the most effective and efficient manner.
It is to achieve the most economical way of doing direct route operation.
It is a strategic alliance between/among suitably qualified/positioned parties and Ecocarrier in
• building the PoPs for call termination by direct routes in select countries with local personnel
• managing the operation of the PoPs with the intelligent interaction between the VoIP/GSM Gateways and the SIM Bank and Policy Server in a cloud computing P-a-a-S service model to ensure the highest level of reliability and service quality
• exploiting the available capacity for call termination of the PoPs with effective placement of wholesale carrier call traffic through Ecocarrier’s service platform; Ecocarrier can effectively market, sell and use up the capacity to ensure a profitable operation of the individual PoP.
IntelliDR Network can be built modularly with the following modules for progressively more functionality and greater performance and capacity
• IntelliDR VoIP/GSM Gateway which is managed with Policy Server that works in tandem with Ecocarrier’s service platform that is able to handle wholesale carrier service traffic directed at/to it (service platform) from various sources such that it can effectively prevent the hacker/ spammer attack traffic from reaching the PoPs.
• IntelliDR SIM Bank & SIM Server that interoperate with IntelliDR VoIP/GSM and Ecocarrier Service Platform to enable and allow for
o Intelligent channel SIM selection
o Intelligent GSM channel selection / IMEI management for making the call to the dialed Destination Number locally in the country.
• IntelliDR Bandwidth Saver that interoperates with IntelliDR VoIP/GSM Gateway, the local ISP providing bandwidth to the IntelliDR VoIP/GSM Gateway and Ecocarrier Service Platform to do transmission with special encrypted codec and bytes/bandwidth saving algorithm to reduce the bandwidth requirement by some 50% – resulting in a huge saving in the fixed cost that is paid for ISP service.
(B) PiFi Proposition for greater mobile connectedness
